A valuation and a purchase offer answer different questions. Understanding the distinction helps you decide whether to keep, insure, sell or further research a coin.
Valuation
A valuation is an estimate of value for a stated purpose and date. Retail, auction, insurance and probate contexts can produce different figures because the likely selling method, timescale and costs differ.
Purchase offer
A purchase offer is the amount a buyer is prepared to pay now. It accounts for resale time, market risk, authentication or grading work, selling costs and the buyer’s operating margin. It may therefore be below a retail-style valuation.
Before deciding
Ask what kind of valuation is being given and whether any fees or conditions apply. A Tudor purchase offer is separate from a valuation, and you are free to accept or decline it. Exact terms should be confirmed in writing for the particular transaction.
